Scope of Practice and Assignments

GDE will be installed on a client. You are expected to install GDE, and show the results of the discovery. Before this installation you are expected to check that the default port 1982 is open and that the clients can see the GEODI server.

  1. Check port and other conditions

  2. Create a temporary directory to explore on the client. GDE settings should be changed accordingly.

  3. Install GDE → Installation can be manual, if you have competence for a tool such as ManageEngine, SCCM you can also use these tools.

  4. Confirm that the client appears in the Agent Management Panel

  5. See/Report results in GEODI interface

  6. Search GDE and see if files open and display

Client Based Customization

For a second client you can customize the GDE settings depending on the IP. The scope of customization may need to cover directories in general or file types to be omitted.

Linux or MacOS Client Setup

You should install on a Linux or MacOS machine depending on access and needs. The MSI installation for Windows is not valid in these environments.

Installation as a service

GEODI can discover FileServers directly or via SSH without an agent. Depending on the needs, you can install GDE as a service on windows servers, if you want discovery with agents.
