Project Wizard

Project Wizard

A GEODI Project brings data sources, discovery rules, permissions, and other policies together. Project Wizard is a tool that allows you to create new projects or edit existing ones.

Project Wizard has four pages:

ย

First Page:Template Selection

The first page allows you to select a template and is displayed only the first time. You can not change the base template once you have created the project. There are two template types:

  1. Templates that come from DECE-STORE Modules. It is essential to choose the right template that provides an easy start. DECE-STORE offers hundreds of modules covering PCI/DSS, GDPR, HIPAA, PDPL, DPDPL, and country-specific regulations.

  2. Any previous project can be used as a template.

Second Page:Data Sources

GEODI works with many different โ˜๏ธ Cloud and ๐Ÿ’ป On-Premise data sources.

To add a data source, youโ€™ll typically need:

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address of the source

  • ๐Ÿ”‘ Login details (credentials)

  • โš™๏ธ Special settings for that source

๐Ÿ‘‰ Each data source has its own guide, which you can find in the links below.

ย

The Classification Template has only one data source for Logs. We suggest leaving as designed and keeping Classification and Discovery projects and servers(where possible).

Some of the Standard Settings (available for every data source)

  • ๐Ÿ”’ Permissions โ†’ You can set project-wide permissions or limit access by data source. These settings apply only inside GEODI and do not change anything on the source system. Details are on the User/Authorization Managementpage.

  • ๐Ÿท๏ธ Display name and icon โ†’ Choose them carefully for clarity, but you can update them anytime.

  • ๐Ÿ“Š Sampling options โ†’ Define how much data is processed during scans.

  • ๐Ÿ“– Full details are explained here: GEODI Data Sources

ย

Third Page:Discovery Scope

This page is where you set the Discovery Scope. If you started with a ready-made template, youโ€™ll already see many recognizers listed.

What you can do

  • โž• Add more recognizers

  • โž– Remove recognizers (right-click to delete)

  • ๐Ÿ”„ Change the order of recognizers

New Recognizers

GEODI templates cover all discovery requirements of known regulations. So, you do not need to add a new recognizer most of the time. But in case your organizationโ€™s specific requirements or GEODI Q AI-based recognizer, you can add your own recognizer:

Testing โ†’ Each recognizer includes a โ€œTryโ€ option. This is especially useful for:

  • Macros

  • Regex

  • GEODI Qโ€™s AI-based recognizers

Since these may require trial and error, the try option helps fine-tune results before applying them. Please note that writing a new recognizer involves a lot of testing, sample documents, and rules to decrease false positives and negatives.

Order Matters โ†’ Recognizers run from top to bottom.

  • If an earlier recognizer matches a phrase, later ones may not detect it.

  • This may happen when rules overlapโ€”for example, a regex that matches all 10-digit numbers may block the specific rule for phone numbers. โš ๏ธ However, this is not the case for GEODI templates and default recognizers, which are designed to avoid such conflicts.

Dictionary and Recognizers

Fourth Page:Project Settings

The fourth and last page of the Project Wizard is where you set the overall project options.

The example below shows:

  • ๐Ÿ“‚ Classification is enabled

  • ๐Ÿ”„ The project is running in continuous discovery mode

  • ๐Ÿ–น OCR โ†’ Whether text inside images or scanned documents should be read and processed.

  • ๐Ÿ”’ Permissions โ†’ Who can view or manage the project.

  • Advanced settings โ†’ Defaults are usually enough, but you can use them as needed.

โš ๏ธ Important about Editing Projects

  • If you edit a project while it is actively scanning, saving your changes will stop the scan.

  • Scanning will restart only at the next scheduled time, or manually.
