GEODI Classifier Office and Other Plugins User Guide

GEODI Classifier is the common name for a set of tools for manual or automatic classification of data. There are plug-ins for Microsoft Office, Exchange Server, Office 365 and Windows. Classifier solutions are compatible with DLP solutions such as ForcePoint, Symantec and TrendMicro.

Plugins are not activated until your GEODI and GEODI Classifier licenses are installed. For installation GEODI Classifier - Class and Policy settings

Desktop Classifier plugin

After installation, the "classify" option comes to the windows right-click. The options that come with classify may be different depending on the server settings. This method creates tags for formats with tag support such as Office documents and PDF. These tags will be interpreted by DLP solutions. For file types without tag support, tags are written using a feature of the NTFS file system. This feature is also compatible with DLP solutions.

Microsoft Office plugins

The installation adds a menu to the "Home" tab in Microsoft Office applications. Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook are supported. Please refer to the system requirements document for compatible versions.

The options offered may be different depending on the server settings. You can select the class of the document manually or automatically. Depending on the class you choose, which labels are written, whether there is a watermark or not and how it looks depends on your settings.

When you save the document or export a PDF, you will be asked for the classification options again. Depending on your settings, you may not be able to save without selecting a class.

Automatic classification is based on GEODI's discovery capabilities. Which class will be created according to which rules can be determined in the server settings. You can create classes such as Confidential/Private as well as distinctions such as with/without personal data.

Word plugin class values and watermark placement

The classification tool tries to place the class values and the watermark in the best possible place. Which of these values is written also depends on the definitions.

You can have Header, Footer and WaterMark values appear and be right/left/centered. Not necessarily all of them.

Word, Excel and Powerpoint are very capable and offer many layout, font and size options. In all these cases it may not be possible to type the class values without affecting the document. In this case, please try the options provided or change the templates you are using to take the classification values into account.

All situations that occur with manually created headers/footers also apply to GEODI tags. The footer may not be displayed in some office versions when printing a portrait formatted page horizontally.

In cases such as using the document margins to the end, GEODI class labels will necessarily overlap with the existing content. In this case you should reserve space for the label.

Offline Working

If the computer you are using cannot access the GEODI server, only manual classification can be performed with the classification tools. The logs of the classifications made during this time will be transferred to the server once the connection is restored.

During offline periods, the classification tools will attempt to contract the servers, which may result in slightly longer startup times.

In such a case, you should contact your company’s IT department to resolve the issue.

Rule Changes

Classification policies and rules for the class you use and the tools are set centrally. When these rules change, the interfaces will be updated the next time you log in.
