This source connects local folders or network shares for indexing/discovery.
When sharing is not preferred or possible, you may use the GDE agent (for Windows, MacOS, or Linux clients) to index. Please refer to Source:File Server
When there are many computers to discover, you may use the GDE agent (Windows, MacOS, or Linux clients). Please refer to Source:PC's
Start with the folder source in the project wizard. The options (OCR, FacePro …) may differ depending on your license.
The selected folder and all its subfolders will be indexed. By default, certain types (such as EXE, DLL) are excluded. You can modify the exclusion list. For most of the file and content types listed on the "Supported Formats" page, the file content will be indexed. For unknown types, only the file name will be indexed.
Sampled discovery is possible.
Requirements for connection
For GEODI Windows Service, a service user is required.
You should provide credentials(user name/password) to access for each folder/share in case service user do not have any access to them.
Decision to crawl all or sampled subset.
Scope of discovery decision
Content
All file typeWordke word, excel, PDF, text, jpeg, tiff, video …
File Databases like SQLite, Access...
Compressed files and their content (ZIP, RAR, 7ZIP..)
Only the name is indexed for unrecognized file types.
Only the name is indexed for password-protected or corrupted files (! appended the name)
*.xDeceConnection files, Connection files for any database created by GEODI
*.meta.xml files are a structure where you can define additional metadata for any file: Supported Formats
New or changed content may be periodically or manually indexed
When exhaustive indexing is not required, sampling is possible
The GEODI Service user must have at least read-only access to the folder tree.
GEODI users' permissions may be defined per source, or if you enable LDAP, LDAP permissions per user is preserved for G” action to synchronize.
If options like Drag & Drop are selected, write permissions may also be required for defined directories and subdirectories.
If a different username is required for file server or sharing, you can define it in GEODI or use a command like 'net use ..'.
If indexing of changing content is active on a project basis, it will be applicable to all resources. You can define periods on a resource basis with "enable automatic scanning" if desired.
Files added to a folder will be included.
Changed files will be versioned.
Nothing will be done for deleted files; they will continue to exist in the index. If you want to remove them from the index, your system administrator needs to execute the "index repair --> delete deleted items" operation.
The selected dictionary entries for the status dictionary appear in the "note-taking" interface. This way, you can label them much more easily and accurately. An example status dictionary that comes with GEODI can be used for HR processes.
The backup option is valid for all resources. GEODI indexes a content and backs it up to a specified directory.
Files that are deleted after indexing are included in the backup and can be accessed via GEODI.
With backup, files can be opened, viewed, or downloaded not only for the latest version but for all versions. (CAD & GIS Viewer can visually compare CAD files)
